The first film in the new SPACE bi-monthly Social Justice Film Series. The Garden tells the story of the 14-acre community garden in South Central Los Angeles, the largest of its kind in the US. Started after the devastating L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central Farmers have since created a miracle in one of the country’s most blighted neighborhoods. Growing their own food. Feeding their families. Creating a community. Now, bulldozers are poised to level their oasis because of questionable, closed-door deals made by land developers with the LA City Council. Followed by discussion about Portland’s community growing spaces. 80 minutes.
