"Success Breeds Success"
We've all heard it, some of really "know it" and few have internalized it and see it happen in their lives every single day. How do the successful people of the world become successful? What is success to you? Success is different to so many people. To some, it's seeing their ideas play out on a world stage with products they've created. To others, it's seeing their life mission help and cure people of sickness, poverty, etc. But did that all happen at once?
To me, success starts with the smallest of things. Waking up in the morning and making sure I smile. I could have the worst of neck pain, a broken toe, dogs waking me up at 3am... but if I make a conscious effort to smile, my day has already started out good. After you wake up, tell someone you love them. Tell yourself you love you. Now, before you start saying how hokey that sounds, give it a try. Really think about it, internalize it. You don't have to say it out loud at first, 'cause I know it's a little odd feeling at the beginning. Success starts with you and no one else.
If you keep going on these paths, you start to see that the smallest of things that cost no money at all can start to turn the tides if you're feeling down on your luck. When your "luck" starts to change because you're seeing things in a positive light, you start to see more and more opportunities in front of you that may not have seen before. Or perhaps you saw those opportunities and thought "I could never do that". WHY? Know that you can do whatever it is you want to do. Know the right thing isn't always the easy thing.
As I heard Roxanne Quimby say at an amazing talk she gave in San Francisco, "doing the right thing isn't always easy, and doing the easy thing isn't always right". I like to believe that we all know what the "right" thing to do is for humankind, it's just that some take the easier route so they don't have to exert as much energy, and sometimes that leads to success, and sometimes it leads to a disaster for others.
Do I get flack for the things I do and things I say? I sure do. People don't always agree that I think prices for food are artificially cheap and that local prices are the "real" prices that people should be paying. My product is more expensive than other biscuits on the market for sure. But are you paying an environmental price for my competitors treats? Absolutely! The tides are turning for many people regarding the environment and social justice. By supporting a company that has supporting others built into it's mission gives people a small feeling of success in their lives. That by buying a dog treat such as Barkwheats, they can, in their own way, give back to communities near and far and support a healthy ecosystem in their own backyard (by composting our packaging).
Remember, success breeds success. Every little piece of success that we can find will bring you more, and more, and more. Where are you going to start finding success today?
