Proud of country and garden

This morning out in the garden, the birds were singing, and the brood ewes were wandered around the pasture, lazily looking for a few last mouthfuls of grass before settling down for their afternoon nap to chew their cuds. Basket in hand I was harvesting and thinning lettuce, whistling to the mourning doves calling happily from the trees. Getting Ready for Farmers Market

Now is the busiest time. Running a small farm while we both work and need to make time for family is challenging. Karla graduated from Champlain College, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in Marketing. We are so proud. Derek is finishing his Freshman Year at Fryeburg Academy and enjoying friends, video games and playing his electric guitar. I am in the garden every day planting, weeding, & rototilling, repotting seedlings for market. It's time to flush our ewes, as we start breeding in another… Continue

Spring chores

Yesterday loaded up several people with well composted manure. Enjoy watching peoples reaction when they see how dark and rich the manure is. Last night evaluated our lambs and marked two ewes that will be good replacement ewes. Have some nice lambs this year. Good long length, depth, and out of ewes with superior maternal instincts. Now need to begin halter training the 4 lambs we kept from last year. Will be busy now, turning compost into garden and plant,plant plant. My favorite time of year.… Continue
