locating farmland

I am trying to locate a farm that is for sale in the triangle area of Farmington, Lewiston and Portland, that is about an hour inland from the coast. I am looking for a minium of 10 acres with a house on the property that does not need to be habitable. Water needs to be abundant and pure. My goal is to start a biodynamic farm and wellness center. A vision statement about the farm and wellness center can be furnished upon request. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any ideas or possible leads to… Continue

Hi Liz,

Have you already tried contacting Maine Farmland Trust in your search for a farm? They have a farmlink program that you might want to look at: http://www.mainefarmlandtrust.org/farmlink.html

Hope you are well,
Alison

Hi Liz-

I am from Mashpee, too! However, I now live in Rockport, ME and have been in Maine for the last 5 years. I would try Little Alaska Farm in Wales. It is 45 minutes North of Portland, but well worth the trip...especially if you pack a whole cooler full of meat, since we both know Cape Cod is lacking compared to Maine. That is where I have gotten my turkey the last three years and they may have extra, even short notice. Leon, the butcher, can help you out. Good luck!

You guys wont believe how hard it is to find a fresh really free-ranged turkey down here. Looks like I am going to have to buy a sheltons organic frozen one...bummer. I will be in Portland next weekend for appointments. Any one know of farmers who might be processing that weekend and have some for sale? Free ranged please! Thanks, Liz
