I work for the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance and helped start the first Community Supported Fishery in Maine. The CSF product was shrimp and we are working to expand t he offering to a variety of fish and shellfish.

Changing the way we think of pollock

We've been working to promote eating local seafood and with that comes the need to know what fish is local and whether it's something you'd like. Last fall I was delighted to hear from the Midcoast Fishermen's Co-op that members of their CSF started asking for pollock over haddock or cod. Once members tried pollock as part of their share, they liked the mild flavor and firm texture for everything from chowders to fishcakes to fillets. Green Jobs on the Blue Ocean - NAMA's February newsletter and a surprising response

In February the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (for whom I work) sent out our latest newsletter. Although I'd be naive to think that there wouldn't be opposition to our position, I was surprised to see such strong support for for agribusiness in a fisheries magazine. I've attached this response to our newsletter as published in the April issue of National Fisherman, a Portland, ME publication. What do you think?
