Mission
The Sustainability Lab supports and advances sustainable practices by exploring the convergence of human activity, technology and the natural environment, this against the backdrop of exponential population growth, global climate change and an increasing disparity between the rich and the poor.
Major topics of exploration:
1. Energy
2. Shelter
3. Food
4. Water
5. Waste
Programs
Semester on Sustainability (SOS) -15 week residential, project based academic program for college students wishing to work in an intense and cooperative environment. We believe that today’s students – through active engagement in local issues related to energy, shelter, food, water and waste can play a vital and inspirational role in moving us toward a sustainable World.
Projects will focus on one or more of the major topics of exploration. Activities include action research, service-learning opportunities, seminars, presentations and workshops. Students will receive academic credit for their work. Maine serves as the laboratory and the beneficiary of the Lab’s work.
