I know that chickens lay less in the winter, but mine stopped all together in October and only now am I getting a few eggs (4 out of 35 chickens) what's going on, last year they all laid all winter?

How much light are they getting?
I don't leave the light on at night, last year it didn't matter at all , but this year no eggs, so I guess I'll try leaving it on. Also wondering if the nest and roosting areas are an issue, they go outside during the day and come in at night
Age seems to have a bearing - my 7 month old hens are laying without any unnatural light at all! In the past, once the hens get to be 2- 3 years old they start taking breaks in the winter. Guess I would too.
thanks, good point, all the young hens have started laying again, we're back in business, having to keep everyone in for a week or so thanks to the chicken hawk who has been dining on my chickens!!!
