I’ve seen this today and thought I’d share it.
I had heard this group may be planning distribution by November.
If interested, there’s a pledge on the web site.
“The
Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
and the
Maine Farm Bureau
are working together to help Maine's family-run organic dairy farms find more local Maine markets.
You can help in this effort by pledging to buy Maine-produced, Maine-processed, and Maine-labeled organic milk when it's available at your local store.”
This particular group of farmers had contracts with Hood, who was trucking their milk, as I understand it, to NY for processing as organic milk. When Hood found that money was a bit hard to make in the organic milk realm, they dropped their contract with these farmers. These farmers are trying to start Maine's First organic bottling company. Its a real step forward for an industry that has been consuming small processors for years leaving mostly big processors to dominate the dairy industry and making small farmers really incidental to milk production---the folks who tend the cows 24/7 should hold some sway and say and so, a Maine bottling option is something worth supporting. If you can find organic milk at Farmers Markets, buy it. If not, Maine's Own Organic (MOO) Milk is the only organic milk managed by farmers and bottled in Maine.

I'll be sharing some of my home-raised, dry-cured salted ham in this follow-up to a charcuterie tasting I hosted a year ago. The ham is OG, from a pig I grew, salt only(no nitrates/nitrites) slow cured- it's been aging for one year in my cellar. I...
