Eat Maine Foods!

Local Foods - "Mud Season" Fundraising Dinner
Saturday, April 5 6 PM Unity Centre for Performing Arts (directions)

Who could possibly be bold (crazy?)enough to plan a local foods dinner for the end of winter, when the root cellars are nearing empty and the first tomatoes are still months away? We are! Join Food for Maine's Future and others on Saturday, April 5 for a local foods dinner at the Unity Performing Arts Center in Unity. This dinner is a celebration of Maine food and Maine's food producers and will consist (almost) entirely of Maine food. Guests can expect a fun and delicious time, while supporting and building a culture of food that respects the people, the animals, the land, and the waterways that keep us all fed and nourished. Purchase a ticket

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Food for Maine's Future and the Unity Food Pantry. Purchase a Ticket Online.
You can also email us your reservation and pay at the door.
This is not only a chance to eat well, but to share an intimate food experience with friends and neighbors. Come, see, and taste for yourself the bounty that Maine has to offer all year-round and the richness of Maine's food heritage.

The dinner will be followed by the second keynote address of the 3rd Annual Local and Sustainable Foods Conference - Eustaquio Polo Rivera. Eustaquio is vice president on the board of the Major Council of the Curvaradó river basin- Chocó, Colombia. He is 39 years old and is father of four girls and five boys. He is an active leader in the work that his community has be doing to recuperate collectively titled lands occupied by oil palm companies connected to the paramilitary structure. As a result as Eustaquio´s efforts as a community leader, he has received death threats from the oil palm companies as has the legal representative of Curvaradó's Council, Ligia María Chaverra (who appears in the photo with Eustaquio), and the small scale farmer Enrique Petro.

A donation of between $8 and $50 is requested to attend the dinner, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds

I'll be sharing some of my home-raised, dry-cured salted ham in this follow-up to a charcuterie tasting I hosted a year ago. The ham is OG, from a pig I grew, salt only(no nitrates/nitrites) slow cured- it's been aging for one year in my cellar. I...
